Programming with R:

Kickstart R

The course is designed as an introduction to R for beginners, focusing on data analysis, visualization, and essential programming concepts like loops, conditionals, and custom functions. It aims to lay the foundation for learners to continue developing their R skills independently or pursue more advanced courses in the future.

This course is a short introduction to R for people with little or no previous programming experience. It covers data analysis and visualization, focussing on working with tabular data and other core data structures, using conditionals and loops, writing custom functions, and creating publication-quality graphics. As our more introductory R offering, this workshop also introduces learners to RStudio and strategies for getting help. Please note that statistical analyses are not covered in this introductory course.

The idea behind this short course is to kick-start your R skills, so that you can continue to deepen your knowledge of R by yourself, after being taught the basics in the course. Alternatively, you could visit one of our longer, more intense R courses in the future to improve your R skills.

This course is based on lesson plans provided by The Carpentries and will be taught by a certified Carpentries instructor. To get an idea of the topics covered in this workshop, you can have a look at the example lesson plans here. But please be aware that the exact content covered in each course can vary slightly, depending on the course instructors and time constraints. You will get more information on this course closer to the starting date.
