Introduction to Git and GitLab

This workshop offers a hands-on introduction to using the version control system Git alongside the collaboration platform GitLab. Through live coding, participants can practice each step directly as they learn.

The workshop provides a practical introduction into the usage of the version control system Git in combination with the collaboration platform GitLab. The topics are presented using a live coding approach, which allows you to directly try out all steps on your own.

Learning goals

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Perform the initial Git Setup
  • Apply the basic Git workflow
  • Apply the feature branch workflow
  • Work with remote repositories in GitLab
  • Apply a basic GitLab contribution workflow using issues and merge requests

Prerequisites

This is an introductory workshop. No special knowledge is required. Experience in using a shell is an advantage.
