Data, data, data: What data helps in the fight against the virus?
HIDA@re:publica.tv
Alice McHardy and Fabian Theis in conversation with Xenia von Polier
COVID-19 poses immense challenges for our society. How can data help to contain the pandemic and what role do AI and machine learning play in this?
As Germany's largest research organisation, Helmholtz is making important contributions to tackling the Corona crisis through cutting-edge research. Xenia von Polier discusses with Alice C. McHardy from the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and Fabian J. Theis from Helmholtz Zentrum München, German Research Center for Environmental Health (HGMU) about methods that can be used to reconstruct and limit the spread of the pandemic and about the development of vaccines. The session will also focus on the role of data science as the key to modern cutting-edge research. Because the pandemic also makes it clear: science must analyse ever larger and more complex amounts of data and increasingly needs special qualifications in data science.
